Throwin' the towel
«

Today was my 5 th trip in a row not connecting. I had a fish slap at my sea pup a little before sunset yesterday, I haven't seen bait. I think i will send that $200 paper weight quantum calls a reel in for warrenty, and finally concentrate on school
, unless someone can change my mind with a fish story.

I wouldn't give up so soon. Besides, the point of fishing is fishing, not catching.
But you can always toss it my way. I'll catch it.

I'm thinking of winterizing my boat and devote more time to bass (freshwater) fishing. At least I should be able to find them or crappie with some shinners.
The salty stuff hasn't been very good this fall. Maybe it's still from the lack of rain.

I agree. This fall doesnt come close to some of the past few years. Then again, I have had some of my best fishing around thanksgiving time. Hopefully this season can redeem itself.

I think I'm throwing in the salty towel as well. I wanted to target togs but my motor needs work so I will have it repaired, winterized and stored for the winter. Has anyone fished the Derby Dam area? I hear there is good Striper and Atlantic Salmon (broodstock) fishing. I have always read reports of people catching fish there all winter. There is a nice area off of Route 34 to park and cast from shore.

Also across the street there is another angler parking area, there just a little more walking invoved but you get good access to the moving water under the part of the dam were they let the water through. I don't know much about the Derby Dam though. Not for nothin' the Naugy River is full of broodstock sammies and some nice trout, also I have caught some scrappy smallmouth all in Beacon Falls. I was upset the other day, I am going to give the salt a few more chances, plus that full moon is coming in a week and a half, I am going to hit the A.M. ebb on Thurs. at the mouth of the Housy.

Though I have not read any reports this fall, but I suspect as usual, you can fish the Thames River in Norwich Harbor all winter for stripped bass. The "Fish Connection" on rte. 12 in nearby Preston, is the local knowledgable tackle shop. Usually you can catch them by the hundreds by boat and from shore if you can find the pod. Nearly all are catch&release, but a keeper is caugh now & then. You'll need a FW liscence.
