Westport Outfitters Fishing Report: Week of November 10th
Some housekeeping stuff before this weeks action packed report: First Annual Customer Appreciation Party is set for December 1st at 3:00-? sharp. We will have refreshments and food so, if you plan on coming by, please RSVP to
ejohnson@westportoutfitters.com so we can get an accurate head count. This day will also mark a very special holiday gift for all in attendance so you will not want to miss it (details to follow as the date draws nearer). Come by and speak with local captains and meet new fish friends, heck, bring the wife or girlfriend (and boyfriend for our fisherwomen) so they actually can see the place where you spend all your time (dont worry, we wont tell them about the money part). Onto the report Now we are talkingthe weather albeit not too nice over the weekend, did not prevent the hardcore from getting out. If we did not have enough bait in the area before our latest weather patterns, add another species to the mixherringand its everywhere! The phones on Sunday were lighting up with some epic top water action that extended from Fairfield to Westport with the classic fall pictures of breaking birds and busting fish. Back locally, George Moreo continues to get into keeper bass on his Westport Outfitters T&W rig off of Westport and to think, George was not even trolling less than 4 months ago. Way to go George! Captain Steve was out with his wife on a recreational fishing excursion on Sunday and had dozens of fish on crystal minnows and soft plastics off of Sherwood. Over the weekend shop faithful and friend Jay Thomson also had some action as well on the big stick. Armed with a fresh pair of waders and a handful of Pete Vivianos Yak Hair Baby Bunker patterns, he nailed a 30 inch bass from shore off Compoat dead low tide. Lawrence, after having an unsuccessful outing early Saturday A.M. in the islands on his kayak, popped into the shop and we recommended launching at Compo where he had his share of bass on Mr. Bunkers and Rapala slash baits. An important note for folks like Lawrence who are coming sometimes from out of state. We all know shore access around the county is tuff in season, but virtually every shoreline haunt now is fully acccessible so come on up and take advantage of it! The jigging out towards 11B and Can 13 seems to be producing more on the outgoing tide. John Gore was out Monday and had much success with some big blues and a few stripers out in the bumps. Captain Chris and his mysterious friend were also out Monday with a total fish count to high to fathom with blues up to 12 lbs and stripers to 30 inches on mostly crippled herring jigs and teasers consisting mostly of white. New shop customer Rob Cap has been putting to work his new Hobie Kayak furnished to him by the crew at Westport Outfitters and he is convinced we cursed it never to catch blues. Early in the week he had bass to all sizes on Stillwater plugs and Broken Back Creek Chubs off of Fairfield. The day following he reported large schools of breaking fish off of Sasco working the bait hard, however, he was on his road bike instead of his yak so all he could do was sit and watch. UPDATE: Rob did it again on Wednesday with a fat 37 inch striper that weighed in at approximately 23lbs off of Fairfield with two many breaking schools of bass to count. Wednesday we had Captain Steve and Captain Chuck, who is in the process of moving South, out for the day with fish inside of Copps as well at Sherwood up to 31 inchesone blue. All fish were on either soft swim baits or crystal minnows with reports of herring all over. The time is now, if the boat is still in, the fish are waiting. Focus on the outgoing tides out deep if you can. Inshore, the tide or time of day, based on our reports this week, seem to be of lesser importance. Hopefully we will get some clear days with stable weather over the next week so get out there if you can!! The black fish bite still remains strong with fish up to 7.5lbs near Greens Ledge and multiple reports from Fairfield. If this is your fancy, there are plenty of togs still around. Sorry Orlando, wish you still had that boat in!! -- Delivered by Feed43 service
