New to Stamford - Looking for hot spots & tips 6 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello,

I just moved to Stamford from Seattle. I'm looking for some tips for local fishing, and maybe some hot spots for shore/dock fishing, as I moved w/o my boat. Also, maybe some information about the fish here. I understand bluefish are pretty popular... What else is out there?

At home I fish for Salmon 3-4 days a week during the summer run, and limit out consistently. Fishing for Salmon it much different than any other fish. They move down the interior coastline of the Puget Sound looking for their respective river inlet; which means even from a boat... you fish close to shore (Unlesss you're going for King which like the deep water). Your best bet is using medium sized buzz bombs - Most people like bright pink, but I prefer a opaque pearl with some green tints - Salmon love the flashing pearl color in the water.

Any tips for bluefish? Do they migrate close to shore, or further out in the sound? What kind of tackle do most people use here? Any luck with one particular style? Do you know of any good spots in the area for fishing from shore or from a dock? And most importantly... Any great local recipes I should know about?

I also do a lot of blue water game fishing, for Tuna mostly. And will be out on the Pacific for this summer's Oregon Tuna Classic!

Bluefish migrate close to shore and further out, just depends where the bait is. They are a very agressive fish when feeding so if you can find bait, you have a good chance of finding a blue late in the summer.

Stamford harbor usually fills up with blues late in the summer. If they are on the surface, plugs, kastmasters, diamond jigs, and storm shad work great. Otherwise, fresh bunker is always a favorite.

There are a few spots off of cummings park that people fish. Otherwise, I would go to Fish tales Tackle shop on Shippan and they should be able to tell you where to go.
