Chain Pickerel 2 Years, 8 Months ago
Pickerel are very underrated fish, and deserve a much better reputation. Very few anglers target them, and I am one of those few people. Pickerel are fun to catch,. and you often encouter 3 or 4 pounders. the Ct record for chain pickerel is 8 lbs. 6 oz. Many fishermen consider them a pest, but they are very ferocious fish and put a good fight. It's like catching a mini-pike. I would recommend using a spoon in bright colors like yellow, red and also a good ole red devil. A good size would be anywhere from 1 inch to2 inches, depending on the size of the spot you're fishing. When you land a pickie, make sure to wet your hands before touching the fish in order to prevent it from loosing its important layer of slime. If you catch a large pick, try to keep the fish in the water to unhook it( if possible) because anglers who have caught big pickerel and handled them to long out of the water will usually not survive. Just wanted 2 give you guys a few tips on pickerel fishing.

Pickerel are a fun catch. The only downside to fishing them is the handling. The teeth can be a bit of a pain too. But very fun. I have caught quite a few on a power worm on the move. But I have only found them in two places in Ct.
