best all around boat? 2 Years, 7 Months ago
I going to be moving from Miami Fl in the next month or so. Down here I have a nice little flats boat that I use for sight fishing. I know that if I was to bring the boat along with me up north that I would hardly, if ever get to use it so I will be selling it before my move. My question is, what would be the best type of boat for all around fishing in your area? The boat that I have been looking at is the 22' Pathfinder tournament edition but I am not sure this boat is made to handle the rougher water that you get up there. Maybe an offshore boat would be best. Any opinions would be helpfull.

I have had a great experience with Hydra-Sports. The performance and quality of the lightning series has been excellent around this area and the price isnt bad compared to their competitors.

You know picking out a boat will drive you nuts. I guess it's all in what you want to spend and if you are going to put in a slip or trailer it. Like NLARSEN said, the hysrasports are good boats. What are you looking for? a center console, walk around, or sport fisherman. I know where there is a good deal on a hysrasports cc and a trophy walkaround. I can send you the links if you are interested. They both are around $26k but both newer boats and are loaded ready to go.

Thanks for the replies guys! I am interested in an open fisherman that I can trailer. Nothing to big, preferably with one O/B (gas is too expensive). Are there any local boat biulders up there?

Well you have Blue-Fin in RI but that out of my price range.

If you would like you could call or email Mark at The Maris yacht group. He is a dealer I have talked to a couple of times, he bought some tackle from me. he seems like a nice guy and a straight shooter. When I talked to him about boats he didn't try to sell me on something i didn't want. www.marisyachtgroup.com

Let him know Rich from BuyTackleNow.Com told you to call.

You also could look in the ctfisherman for sale ads there are a lot of nice boats there.

Let me know how you make out.

Rich

Thanks Rich. I will probably end up with a newer used boat as I do not have a load of money for a boat as well. I was just curious if there were any builders in the area because they tend to be the more popular boats since they are made local. I will check the for sale section as soon as I fine it.

thanks again,
Mike

Another great resource is the Bargain News http://www.bargainnews.com/catsearch.cfm?type=boat&make=Boats&cat=125. They usually have a decent amount of used and some new boats.

Hope this helps,
Nick

Thanks Nick. I check out that link and there are a few boats in there that I might be interested in. There was also a 22 pathfinder there. That is really what I think I would like to end up with. A boat that I can confortably trailer that can go both fresh and salt water. I am still not to sure about what type of fishing I will get into. growing up we would put a hunk of bunker on, throw it out and wait. Fishing down here in Miami though has opened my eyes to so many other types of fishing. Live bait and fly being my favorite. I am not sure if I will be able to adapt my favorite fishing techniques to the fish that are up there and how this will relate to my choice of boats. What type of fishing do you guys do and what boats do you have to do it?

I my self have a 19' Bayliner Cuddy. It sucks for fishing but is a good family boat. I have been looking at new center consoles for about 3 months now. It will drive you nuts. I did look at an 05 Robalo 19' the other day and that was a nice boat.($24,995) They also had an 06 Century 18' which was a nice boat for the same price.

here is the link to ctfisherman. http://www.ctfisherman.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/ubb/forum/f/5.html

Good luck.
