It depends on what your trying to do, but generally live bait is much better.

Thanks. Its kinda strange that live bait is better since so many places have so many lures on sale. I walked into a few stores and lures seemed to outnumber live bait by 10 to 1. But I guess there no substitute as good as the real thing.

Back in the herring using days, in the CT River, I'd catch more stripers using live bait 10-1 vs. lures. Although there were a few ppl who could constantly catch Stripers w/ lures. Usually those ppl would dramatically alter the lure itself though.
